About the project
Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to fund 18 months of research and community building. Our project facilitators, who are Black and Care Experienced, spent time connecting with more of Britain's Black Care Experienced population to hear and record their stories in their own words. These stories have been archived at The University of Leicester's Oral History Archive- where they will live on forever. Our hope is that by archiving and amplifying these important pockets of Britain's history we will be able to share them with key decision makers to inform change in the social care sector.
The first step is finding these unheard stories, hearing them and storing them for safe keeping, the next steps will be shaped by participants and our ever growing community and the possibilities are endless.
Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Black Care Oral Histories Project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
"The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past."
